Mediq, the European health care products and service partner for healthcare consumers, professionals and institutions, has acquired H&R Healthcare Ltd. A recognized leader in distribution of wound care products, H&R Healthcare significantly strengthens Mediq’s footprint in the UK. “Mediq is constantly innovating and investing in collaboration with healthcare providers to enable people with an illness or chronic health condition to live their lives on their own terms,” says Mediq Chief Executive Christian Wojczewski. “H&R Healthcare is the fastest growing distributor of our own brand wound care products. We look forward to working with their management and employees to provide the primary and secondary care market with the best possible products and services, specialist education and support.”
“Mediq and H&R Healthcare share a passion for delivering innovation to drive improved patient outcomes while simultaneously lowering the cost of delivering healthcare. Another thing that we have in common is our focus on outstanding products that meet patients’ needs and offer excellent value to the NHS”, adds Mike Hoskins, managing director of H&R Healthcare. “This transaction allows H&R Healthcare to grow its business in existing markets and expand in markets such as ostomy and continence care. Also, we will leverage and build upon our mutual wound care expertise to support the ongoing education of clinicians within the medical sector and develop new innovations that improve the health and well-being of patients.”
H&R Healthcare was established in 2006, and has become one of the UK’s fastest growing medical sales and marketing distribution companies. H&R Healthcare represents world-class manufacturers of advanced wound management, compression, infection control, lymphoedema and skin protection products. All products are carefully selected to offer the best overall value to the NHS, measured by patient outcomes and overall cost effectiveness. The company is based in Hull and employs around 40 people.

Vincent Bröring has been appointed as Sales Director, Roos Sorgdrager as Category Management Director and Marcia Luijendijk as Marketing Director. “Our new organizational structure enables a stronger customer focus. Under the leadership of Vincent, Roos and Marcia, our commercial triangle will work together to realize our ambitions and drive growth,” says Arjen Linders, Managing Director of Mediq Benelux.
Affordability and accessibility of care
This is a logical step in the transformation that Mediq started after the sale of its pharmacy activities. Since then, major changes have been made to strengthen direct-to-patient and institutional activities. Substantial investments were made in digitization, customer service processes and an ultramodern fulfillment center in Bleiswijk. Mediq also introduced multiple innovations that positively influence the care process and life of people with a chronic condition or illness. “In 2020 we are fully committed to growth as this enables us to keep providing affordable and accessible healthcare solutions," Linders says.
Arjen Linders has joined Mediq as Executive Vice President Benelux. Linders previously worked for Philips, amongst others as Senior Vice President & Market Leader Personal Health for North America. During his 20 years at this company, he fulfilled various management positions in personal health, personal care, sleep and respiratory care and consumer lifestyle. He worked in the Netherlands, Eastern Europe and the United States. At Mediq, he wants to leverage his broad experience to help guaranteeing the quality and affordability of healthcare.
Fresh perspective and new ideas
Mediq CEO Christian Wojczewski is pleased to have Linders on board of the European leadership team: ‘Mediq wants to change a market that is under pressure. Therefore, we are constantly expanding our circle of care, making new connections and developing e-health technologies. Arjen knows the healthcare market from working in multiple other branches than medical devices. His fresh perspective and new ideas are exactly what we need to be able to keep adding value.’
Stay healthy and self-reliant for longer‘
Every day, Mediq’s employees work hard to provide high-quality medical devices and care to improve the quality of life of people with a chronic or serious illness. A lot of attention is paid to innovations and opportunities to use technology to help people stay healthy and self-reliant for longer. Today Mediq acquired Puls AS, a major player in the Norwegian health market based in Moss, Norway. Puls is a distributor of medical consumables and capital goods in Norway and Denmark. This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to invest and grow our business in the Nordics cluster.
Our strategy for growth is based on three pillars: market leader in our core categories in the Homecare market, streamlined Total Assortment business for GPs, Care Institutions and Hospitals and leading provider in device-led Hospital Solutions. This acquisition strengthens Mediq’s leading position in Hospital Solutions in the Nordics region. We will combine Puls’ strong portfolio of exclusive products and technical expertise with Mediq’s leading position as a provider of hospital solutions across Europe.
Mediq Norge and Puls initially will continue to operate as separate entities and Puls will be managed by its existing management. The Mediq Norge and Puls teams will move to a new location of which the search will start immediately. This acquisition further builds on our commitment to help those with a chronic or serious health issue, creating connections along the entire healthcare value chain. Our ambition is to grow by continuously raising the bar for care while ensuring affordability of healthcare. I am very pleased to welcome Puls to the Mediq family. The Puls team is complementing well our existing businesses in Norway and Denmark.
